This Range Rover Prototype Can Be Driven Using It’s Smartphone App

Everyday we are moving closer to a future where autonomous cars will become a reality. Jaguar Range Rover UK developed a prototype system that allows a Range Rover to be controlled remotely through a smartphone app. And not just the door locks. The vehicle can be driven from the app.


According to Land Rover, The prototype smartphone app lets you start the car and control the brakes, throttle and steering, as well as gearshifts. Speed is limited to 4 mph in remote pilot mode, but it'll stop if the smartphone or the car key get more than 10 meters (33 ft) from the vehicle. It's unclear whether the car's collision avoidance sensors will stop you from running it into a pole.

The company hopes to develop this technology even further.

The company who made this prototype says that it could eventually build voice commands into the system.

Right now this is just a prototype. Range Rover has not yet made this prototype available to the public. so don’t expect to go down to your local Range Rover dealer and try this out. The company didn’t specify if or when this technology will hit production models.
